It is our fourth year of homeschooling and I can not believe it. I am so excited! I’m probably more excited than the children. For my 2nd grader, he will mainly be focusing on his reading, writing, spelling, and math. The extracurricular subjects we do together with his older brother. This year they wanted to focus on Egypt and Art. I am still creating our units for that. Here are our 2nd-grade homeschool curriculum choices for 2021-2022.
2nd Grade Homeschool Curriculum
Reading
Over this summer my 2nd-grader has excelled in reading on his own. There are still a few words he needs help with and we will be reading tons of stories, like normal, this year. To go along I have added Reading-Literature First Reader to go along with our Bob Books. It’s a book with stories, poems, fables, and fairy tales. Not many pictures which can help not distract from his reading.
Writing
Since I now have a new reader we will be incorporating more free writing and copy work this year. Freewriting I will encourage during our read alouds and copy work I will include in his spelling. I will also be using Draw Write Now again this year. We love this book. The books give a picture for the student to draw and teach them how to draw it then give them sentences to copy after. It’s such a colorful book and it’s good for us to start our day. We will be also using Handwriting: Printing as well. I chose this book because it not only allows for him to practice letters but words and sentences also.
Spelling
Once again for spelling, we will be using Evan-Moor Spelling Book. He will be using grade 1 this year for the first half of the year and then grade 2 for the second half.
Math
Once again we will be using Horizons Math Curriculum for 2nd grade. I love this curriculum so much. We have used it the last two years and I am so proud and amazed at how much both of the kids excelled in math. Math is not a strong subject in our house but this curriculum has changed that. I have a full review for Horizons Kindergarten Math here if you are more interested.
Even though this curriculum is very good and keeps my second grader intrigued I also supplement with flashcards, counters, and Money Bags, a money counting game. These help him a little more in math.
I have also included two new daily worksheets for him to use each day with counting, skip counting, and learning the calendar. You can purchase both for $2 with the links attached to the photos below!
This is our 2nd Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices for this year. We are so excited. What are you using in your homeschool this year? Stay peaceful.
