It’s that time of year again! I still can’t believe it! The planning of our fifth year of homeschooling! Where has the time gone? I am so excited! I’m probably more excited than the children. For my now 3rd grader, (were you here when he was in kindergarten?) he will mainly focus on his reading, writing, spelling, and math. This year for fun he chose to learn all about foxes and the 50 states in America. I am still creating our units for that. Join my mailing list for a lookout for the fox unit study I am creating. Here are our 3rd grade homeschool curriculum choices for 2022-2023.

Planning

So as I plan out for our year I always need a good planner for notes, attendance, etc. This will be my second year using this homeschool planner by Emmeline Bloom. It is by far my favorite. I am able to keep attendance (which my state requires), our reading list, and curriculum list, along with weekly planning which I prefer over monthly planning.

English Language Arts

This year we are focusing on more reading, which is his favorite thing to do, and more writing practice which will include another handwriting print book and spelling from our morning journaling, something new I am adding to our homeschool.

Reading

We will still be reading all the books from our public library and personal library. You can check out the morning basket category here to see what we are reading each month. I will also be including small chapter books for him to read with me along with other readers. Here are some of the books he chose for his 3rd grade homeschool curriculum.

Writing

We are still practicing writing in print right now and learning basic structures for sentences. So this year we will still be using a print handwriting book along with a creative writing book to help him with practicing sentences. We will also be continuing our use of Draw Write Now. We will be starting book 3 this year. These are the three books we will be using this year.

Spelling

This year since we are really focusing on writing I am just going to be helping him spell misspelled words in his morning journaling. This is something new we are going to try using the Draw Your Day for Kids book. This book gives them creative freedom to draw or write their day out with different prompts I am so excited to use this with him. This gives him the chance to be as creative as he wants.

Arithmetic

So, if you have been here a while you know we love Horizons Math, but this year we are trying something different. One of the benefits of homeschooling is my children get the chance to really master a subject. With my 3rd grader last year his Horizons Math book was moving too fast for him. So this year we are taking a slower, unschooling approach to math. I am hoping this will help him master subtraction, time, measuring, and money.

Math Products

Here are some of the math products we are keeping in our 3rd grade homeschool curriculum this year. For math we have used these products for years and they are all really well-loved. We are only using one workbook to help with addition and subtraction.

This year we are still going to be using my daily and monthly calendars as well for my 3rd grader. These really have helped him understand the different months, days of the weeks, and calendar. My Daily Calendars are for purchase here!

Counting for 2nd grade homeschool curriculum

You can also purchase my monthly calendars here. You get 24 printable blank calendars. The first set is so they can write in the month and days of the week. The second set is for those that can’t quite write yet but can color them in.

I hope these choices help you in deciding your 3rd grade homeschool curriculum! Stay peaceful!
