It is our fourth year of homeschooling and I can not believe it. I am so excited! I’m probably more excited than the children. For my 7th grader, he will mainly be focusing on his spelling, reading, grammar, journaling, and math. The extracurricular subjects we do together with his younger brother. This year they wanted to focus on Egypt and Art. I am still creating our units for those subjects. Here are our 7th-grade homeschool curriculum choices for 2021-2022.
7th-Grade Homeschool Curriculum
Spelling and Reading
Last year I allowed my 7th grader to pick out the books he wanted to read and I created our own unit study to go with them. You can check out what read last year here. This year I will be doing the same thing. The first book we will be reading is A Long Way from Chicago. I read the book first and find words for his spelling each week. I normally do ten words a week and allow him to define them. He writes sentences with them along with testing each Friday just to see if he understands them. This is a fun way for him to broaden his vocabulary.
Grammar
This year we are using two different books for grammar. My 7th grader needs extra practice for grammar. The first book will be the Evan-Moor Daily Paragraph Editing. We used this book last year and it was successful. We are also using The Dragon Grammar Book this year for reference and extra practice. I thought this book would be a fun way to understand grammar better.
Writing
So, this year I am incorporating more freewriting in our homeschool. To start his day we are going to use the Unjournaling book. We will use this every day and this will really get him to expand on his creativity along with practicing writing each day.
Math
Once again we will be using Horizons Math Curriculum for 7th grade. I love this curriculum so much. We have used it the last two years and I am so proud and amazed at how much both of the kids have excelled in math. Math is not a strong subject in our house but this curriculum has changed that. I have a full review for Horizons 5th Grade Math here if you are more interested.
This is our 7th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices for this year. We are so excited. What are you using in your homeschool this year? Stay peaceful.
