Happy Sunday and welcome back to my blog. Today I want to share with you what we are doing for homeschool week. Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday so I have planned our weekly to Valentine’s Day week. As we are a large family we always make a nice meal and share Valentine’s. My children have always loved this and so I plan to keep the tradition going.
We are Waldorf-inspired in our homeschool so we follow a weekly rhythm and daily rhythm, which dedicates each day to one of our activities for homeschool. Monday is nature day, Tuesday is dedicated to handcrafts, Wednesday is watercolor day, Thursday we normally bake a treat, and Friday is for plays. So this week is Valentine’s themed.
Monday – Nature Day
In our homeschool, Monday is a transition day. A day of easing back into homeschool from our weekend. This coming Monday will be quite cold so we will just take a nature walk at our favorite nature preserve. On Monday I will also be introducing our story for the week, Snow White. I will simply tell the story on Monday and repeat it throughout the week.
Tuesday – Handcraft Day
Throughout the winter we have been practicing finger knitting with my kindergartener. We have been using Sundays with Sarah’s video on finger knitting. She explains it with a little saying you can teach your children. I went to Michael’s and found a pretty yarn that I thought would be perfect for Valentine’s Day hearts. We are going to be making them for her siblings and Papa. We will finger-knit a long strand and then wrap a pipe cleaner around it. I chose silver because you can really see it. We will then shape the yarn into a heart and tie it together. I love this simple craft. It turned out so pretty.

Wednesday – Watercolor Day
This week we will be using a water color palette for the activity I have planned. I will be drawing with a white crayon hearts on my water color paper. Then we will water color over the drawn hearts. My children love this technique because its complete magic.

Thursday – Baking Day
For our baking this week my kindergartener requested a cake for our Valentine’s Day dinner. So to make this a little extra special together we will find a cake recipe then write out a grocery list for whatever ingredients we may need. Then I’ll give her some cash so she can pay for it herself. We will then come home and bake our cake.

Friday – Dinner and a show
On Friday evenings, we normally perform a play from the story we have read all week. We will do the same after our Valentine’s Day dinner. This week’s story will be Snow White as it is a perfect, winter love story. As we prepare our dinner I will also get my kindergartener to prepare for the play. She will figure out the puppets she may want to use along with setting up her stage with a little stage I built with scrap wood.
This completes what our Valentine’s Day Week will look like this year. I hope this helps you with your homeschool preparations for the week.
