Toys and play are very important in our household. There are 5 children, which means we have quite a bit of a collection of toys between birthday presents and gifts from grandparents; it’s more than enough. I have been rotating toys for the past few years now, and I have found it is so much easier to clean up, along with my children actually playing with them, when there are fewer toys. So today I would like to share with you our March toy rotation.

Less is more
When it comes to storing our toys, we use this huge handmade wooden chest that we found at a thrift store. I used to display all of our toys like in a Waldorf setting, but I found my children really had a hard time organizing them back to how I had them. Since getting the chest, it’s been so much easier to clean, and it only holds a certain amount of toys, which is a win in my book.

For each toy rotation, I always try to have something that is open-ended, which in our March toy rotation is our Magnet Tiles, along with wooden blocks we made from a tree branch. My children specifically asked for them this month. I always put different puzzles in our toy box, too.

This month I brought out our well loved doctor kit, our wooden train set, and a Barbie Chelsea closet that was a new toy we received. I also brought out some of our Chelsea dolls to go with it for my children to play with.

Themed Kitchen
This year, I am implementing a themed kitchen for our kitchen set each month. This was one toy that was always out, and I feel gets forgotten about. So, for our March toy rotation, I decided on making a soup restaurant for my children out of the kitchen. We made a menu and signs, and just used different kitchen toys we already had. I added some books I thought would be good to go with our kitchen this month. I chose O’Sullivan Stew, Mouse Soup, and Eating the Alphabet. This has turned into a fun adventure this month.

How do you handle toys in your home? Do you have a toy rotation system?
