Where the Wild Things Are
We are going to start this list with a classic, Where the Wild Things Are. My children (and I) love this book, so much. It’s one of our top bedtime stories and we have even used it in our homeschool, as well. This is the perfect book to get cozy and read together.
What Should Danny Do?
At the beginning of our homeschool year, I stumbled upon the What Should Danny Do? series. We instantly fell in love. These books are a choose your own story type of book. It includes 9 stories and they teach children the power to choose. It is a wonderful way to show children how the choices we make can affect our day.
Pax
For your older kids, I highly recommend the book, Pax. It’s about a boy and his pet fox. It really stirs up the emotions we have inside. We used this book as a read-aloud and by the end, we were all crying. It was such a powerful story.
Room on the Broom
Room on the Broom has been a favorite in our house for many years. My children all love it. This year my 1st grader did a mini-unit on this book. We read it, did the activities, and completed the unit by watching the movie. You can check out mini-unit here on my blog.
Little Dreamers: Visionary Women Around the World
Okay, so this book, Little Dreamers: Visionary Women Around the World, is part of a series. They are books that contain the history of so many people and it’s geared to younger children. We love this book and use it in our homeschool almost every week. This book captures the individual’s story and makes it come to life. The series even includes board books as well. I will leave a link for the series down below.
The Who Was Series
Lastly, as a homeschool mom, I am always trying to find a fun way to incorporate history, and The Who Was series has helped, tremendously, with teaching history. I use these books as read-aloud along with fillers to what we are learning about. My children love these books. They aren’t very long and have pictures, and also are affordable (mom win)!
I hope you enjoyed my ultimate children’s book gift guide for 2020. These are some of the best books we love to read. What are your favorite books to read with your children?
