Now that May is here our schooling is coming to an end. It’s becoming warmer which means more time outside here in the midwest. This is the time of year I love to pull out books about friendship, homes, family, and nature. I also love to pull out classic fairy tales because they remind me of late spring and early summer. It’s when magic and wonder start to begin. Today, I will share with you my favorite May books for kids.

Friendship
This is the time of year we spend more time at the park meeting new friends and playdates with old friends. I like to read books about friendship and just how we generally treat others. It’s a great reminder. It’s also something my children can relate to.
Our Home and Family
Now that it is May, spring cleaning has come in full force. Fresh air is in our home again. It’s starting fresh and I love it. So, we have books about homes and how different they are. What makes a home and how to be happy with what we have.
Nature
I love this time to learn more about nature. Whether it be about the honeybee or trees. It’s the perfect time to explore nature, forage, and bird watching. These are my favorite nature books for this time of year.
To go along with these May books for kids we are also nature journaling. We read most of these either at the park or on our front porch. We then journal about anything we see or discover in the journal. It’s the perfect end to our school year. I hope you enjoy these books as much as we do.
To keep up with what books you are reading you can purchase our reading tracker here! For us, we are trying to read 100 books this summer. I wanted this to be fun for them. Something that they could keep track of and see physically how much we accomplished with our goal. This tracker contains 100 books to either color in or writes the title of the books you have read.
