The sun now rises a little earlier, and there is a pink hue to it this time of year. The birds sing for most of the day now, and it truly brings peace to my soul. Spring has arrived, and I am so thankful. We have had a cold and snowy winter, which I have loved, but it’s nice not to have to bundle up so much now, here in the Midwest. With the change of the season also comes the change of our daily rhythm. It looks the same but with more outside time, along with rest. Today, I will show you a sneak peek into our spring daily rhythm.
Spring Mornings
In our daily rhythm, we do not have a particular time we rise. I get up before my children so I can have peace in the morning. They all rise on their own, some sooner than others. I like to allow them to sleep as long as they need. Since we homeschool, we do not need to rush in the mornings. Before my children rise right now I have been leaving an open invitation with toys, puzzles, or a craft for them to do. I will also use the opening activity that is suggested in my daughter’s curriculum from Wondergarten. It’s an easy way for them to transition from sleep into play.

I like to serve a nourishing breakfast. Normally, we have a Dutch baby, sausages, and fruit. Sometimes I will dollop some yogurt with local honey on top. It’s a delicious and simple recipe. This one is my favorite.
After breakfast, I like to join them in their play with my coffee and a book for myself. I will usually sit at the table or on the couch with them. This gives us some time spent together and some of my reading I like to enjoy, completed. Sometimes they will ask to be read to as well. You can check out our favorite spring books here. Once the coffee is finished (yes, we measure time in coffee over here), we will then begin our chores. This looks like getting ourselves ready for the day, making our beds, cleaning up our mess, doing the dishwasher, starting laundry, and sweeping the floors. Everyone helps out, and it makes all of these chores done quicker.
When chores are completed, we then head outside for a good 30 minutes, sometimes an hour, depending on what they are playing. After playtime outdoors, we will begin some of our lessons until everyone is hungry for lunch. We will take a lunch break and then complete our main lesson for the day.
Spring afternoons
Our homeschool is completed for the day by this time. This is the time I like to catch up on my chores that need to be done. This is also the time when free play is much encouraged. This free play will eventually transition to quiet time for my little ones and screen time for my older children. During this time, I like to make myself a cup of coffee and read, knit, or do something that I enjoy.
After quiet time, we go back outside to play before I start getting dinner ready. Sometimes we will go on a nature walk, go to the park, or just play in our backyard. Now that it is warmer, my children want to be out more, which I love. The outdoors nourishes the soul.

Around 4:30 to 5 is when I like to begin dinner. I like to have plenty of time to cook a nourishing homemade meal. My younger ones love to join me during this time. So, as we all cook together, we will set the table together and try to make it look pretty. I have found that going that extra mile helps at dinner. My children want to be a part of it. Family dinner is very important in our house. Once dinner has been eaten, we all clean up together. This time of the evening, we will go outside just to enjoy the weather together. This is a great transition right before bedtime.
I hope you enjoyed this peek into our spring daily rhythm. I hope it inspires and helps you if you are trying to create your daily rhythm.
