It is our third year of homeschooling and I can not believe it. I am so excited! I’m probably more excited than the children. For my 6th grader, he will mainly be focusing on his spelling, grammar, math, and reading. The extracurricular subjects we do together with his brother. This year they wanted to focus on the ocean. I am still creating our unit for that. Here are our 6th-grade homeschool curriculum choices for 2020-2021.
6th Grade Homeschool Curriculum
Math
Once again we will be using Horizons Math Curriculum for 6th grade. I love this curriculum so much. We used it last year and I am so proud and amazed at how much both of the kids excelled in math. Math is not a strong subject in our house but this curriculum has changed that. I have a full review for Horizons 5th Grade Math here if you are more interested.
For extra practice, we are also using the A+ Interactive Math Curriculum. It is an online curriculum that helps us fill in the gaps for his math studies! You can read more about this amazing and affordable Math Curriculum here.
Spelling
This year for spelling we will be using the Evan-Moor Spelling Skills for Grade 6. It will be done daily. I really liked the words and the different activities they gave throughout the book. They even leave space additional spelling words if needed.
Grammar
This year we are using two different books for grammar. My 6th grader needs the extra practice for grammar Our first book will be the Evan-Moor Grammar and Punctuation. We are using grade 3 to ease into it because he struggles with this subject.
Our second choice is Evan-Moor Daily Paragraph Editing for Grade 6. I chose this as a daily activity to help him have a better understanding of sentence structure.
Reading
This year we are trying something new. I am allowing him to pick the novels he would like to read. The first book he has chosen is As Brave As You. We will go over the story and I will create our unit for the books he chooses. He really enjoys reading so I am really excited to see what stories he chooses this year. We are also going to read See You in the Cosmos and The War that Saved My Life. You can check out our complete reading list here.
This is our 6th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices for this year. We are so excited. What are you using in your homeschool this year? Stay peaceful.
