“There once was a witch…” I don’t know about you but this book and movie is a favorite in our house. It’s a simple story about a witch and her cat. If you are looking for something that’s adorable with a good rhyme, I HIGHLY recommend Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. For my 1st-grader, I created a mini-unit study to help him learn rhyming and he enjoyed it so, so much. I would love to share with you my free Room on the Broom Mini-Unit.

Mini-Unit Packet
This mini-unit packet contains 11 pages, 6 for your child to complete. For our mini-units, we like to use notebooks for them. It makes it easier to keep everything together. It may be easier for you to just use it as a packet or create a folder. Use whatever works best for you and your child.
Vocabulary
Like I said above, I created this for my 1st-grader, so I only chose three words from the book that we can work on together. I shared my vocabulary list in the unit study along with a section for you to add your own vocabulary words too. Remember, everyone is different and at different levels. The three words I chose for him was witch, broom, and dragon. I just get him to cut the words out and glue them to his notebook and get him to rewrite the word. This helps in cutting skills, pasting, and word recognition.
Activities
In this Room on the Broom Mini-Unit, I have included 5 different activities to be completed. Use them however you see fit. We did one for each day of the week, along with reviewing his vocabulary. For each activity, we go over that particular part of the story and have a discussion.
Room on the Broom
So, we started our mini-unit with reading Room on the Broom. We finished it by watching the short movie. This was so much fun having a story and movie to refer back to it. This also opened a discussion of how they were different from each other. There is a Venn diagram also included in this free mini-unit.
I hope you enjoy this free Room on the Broom Mini-Unit for your homeschool. To gain access to the mini-unit enter your email below to get your FREE copy! Remember to have fun and stay peaceful.
